Why I quit Social Media
[#1 03-02-2026]
A couple weeks ago I decided to finally delete Instagram, Discord, and Twitter, and I can 100% say for certain it was the best desicion I have made in a while. The reason I deleted Instagram is because Reels are made to be extremely addicting, and I will be honest in that I spent hours scrolling on the daily, and it began to be a problem. Once I noticed this I put a 30 minute timer on the app, and even that got too much, so I just decided to delete it completely without looking back. Now I don't even think about going back on Instagram, which is a great thing. The reason I deleted Discord is due to their very poor choices and moderation, as well as it making talking to your friends a corporate experience instead of healthy communication, it made me set unrealistic expectations from my friends, I wanted them to be online all the time and respond unrealistically fast. I have now grown from this bad habit ever since I deleted discord. I deleted Twitter mostly for the same reasons as Instagram, but mostly because of how many horrible things you will see, I've created many new accounts to get a fresh feed and still get reccomended horrible posts which I do not want to see. Another reason is I do not care about the news at all, and that is one of the main purposes of it.
Ever since I deleted the apps I have been on my phone significantly less, my screen time was cut down from almost 3 hours to under 30 minutes a day. If you are reading this I highly encourage you to follow the same steps as me and get off these toxic, addicting services that are ruining your attention span. Unfortunately I still watch YouTube for an unhealthy amount of time per day, but the only upside I can see is I mostly watch educational and informational videos which actually give me knowledge instead of mindless consumption of slop content, ragebait content, or just useless videos.
